Raoul Wallenberg Day, August 27th
Sweden and the world celebrate a day in honor of Raoul Wallenberg by encouraging you to make a difference.
In 1944 Raoul Wallenberg saved the lives of tens of thousands of Jews in Nazi-occupied Hungary by issuing them travel passes. Some of them are our members. He himself did not live to see the result of his heroic deed and, according to Russian claims, perished in a Soviet prison in 1947. Amid constant danger, he stood up for what he thought was right and in the process saved many lives.
ACS Intercultural Forum: How We Educate, Tuesday, September 26th
ACS Intercultural Forum: How We Educate – Similarities and Differences between Sweden and USA, Tuesday, September 26th
Join us for an evening at the Faculty Club of Stockholm University as the ACS Intercultural Forum Series looks at a subject of critical importance to both the US and Sweden: how we educate. The two educational systems are usually contrasted with one another as models on different ends of a spectrum, but what is less known is that they have often cross-pollinated. Our panel of experts leads a discussion about the differences and similarities between our two systems, how they have developed and interfaced, and also what the future prospects are for learning from one another.
Third Thursday Networking Mixer, August 17th
Our monthly mixing, mingling and networking event, Third Thursday (or “3T” as regulars call it) is open to anyone with an interest in The American Club of Sweden. It’s even a great opportunity for those considering membership to get to know our members and learn more about our club.
This week we are proud to be featuring Change for Change, an initiative created by member Christopher Robinson in an effort to use our coins that will no longer be valid in Sweden after August 31st 2017. Bring your 1, 2 and 5 kronor coins and donate them to a worthy cause to make life a little lighter for children living in poverty in Sweden (of which there are approximately 250,000!). Read more about Change for Change at the web site. Please note that if you cannot make it to 3T you can also book a free pickup of your change at www.changeforchange.se/contact.
The Third Thursday of each month we gather at Hilton Stockholm (Slussen) from 17:30-19:30.
Please see americanclub.se for details about specific Third Thursday events.
Third Thursday Networking Mixers are held on the third Thursday of each month.
As a rule, Third Thursdays are informal — in the tried-and-true American fashion — business cards, handshakes and a smile. American Club members and non-members are welcome and everyone is encouraged to bring guests.
No reservation necessary, just drop in. Non-members welcome!
Would you like to showcase your company, product or services at an upcoming Third Thursday? Let us know via americanclub.se/sponsors.
